The Union home ministry has brought down the range of ‘disturbed area’ under the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) 1958 in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh following improvement in the law and order situation.

Terrorists attack BSF camp near Srinagar international airport, 2 personnel injured
At around 4.30am, terrorists tried to barge into BSF 182 battalion camp situated near the Srinagar airport. The security forces retaliated, following which, the terrorists holed up in a building inside the campus, ANI quoted BSF as saying. Heavy gunfire is underway.

EWS admissions still on halfway into year
More than halfway into the academic year, the education department is still struggling to fill up seats under the economically weaker sections (EWS) quota in private city schools.With just 23,979 admissions out of 1,13,991 applications, it has now called for a third round of counselling. Experts said the online admission system brought in last year and resistance from schools had led to a sharp drop in EWS admissions, which had touched 31,571 in 2015. Last year, the number had dipped to 19,000.

'Next step, the making of a river rejuvenation policy
Rally for Rivers, the river-rejuvenation initiative led by Sadhguru, concluded in Delhi on Monday. The monthlong pan-India rally covered 16 states, enlisting support of governments, civil society, spiritual leaders and media, creating a plan to rejuvenate rivers. This includes planting trees for at least a kilometre on either side of a river and helping farmers upgrade irrigation with professional inputs. In Haridwar on the last leg, Sadhguru spoke to Vishwa Mohan about the campaign.
