Dear reader,

The second season of the Amazon Prime seriesFamily Man released earlier this month. The series has irked the Tamil Nadu government, which claims the show portrays Tamil separatists as terrorists. While never overtly mentioning the LTTE or any Tamil separatist leaders, the show makes several references to people and institutions that were part of the Tamil Eelam movement.

Mira Patel in this story picks out and digs into three interesting and lesser known aspects of the Tamil separatist movement that The Family Man depicts. The story sheds light on the transnational Tamil government in exile, the military capacity of the LTTE as being the only separatist organisation possessing an air force, and the significant role played by its women members.
