Earlier this week, we celebrated the International Day for Yoga. In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had designated June 21 for spreading awareness on the ancient Indian physical and spiritual practise. But the art of Yoga has been popular in the west for decades now. Its appeal lay in the fact that it bridged the gap between science and religion. If one were to trace the popularity of Yoga in the West, we have to start from September 11, 1893, when Swami Vivekananda gave his famous speech at Chicago in the Parliament of religions.
