Dear reader,   The much-awaited Summer Olympics is finally here. Experts say the Japanese are looking at the Games as a golden opportunity for national redemption after two decades of economic stagnation. It is interesting how this mega sporting event has over the years become a perfect arena for political propaganda. Our stories this week reflect upon some key incidents from the long history of the Olympics when sports was used for politics.    This story takes us all the way back into ancient Greece where the Games first emerged, and how important it was considered by rulers to demonstrate their strength. Since 1896, when the modern Olympics took birth it has witnessed instances like colonial propaganda and anti colonial struggles, advocacy of the Nazi theory of Aryan supremacy, Cold War politics, and the emergence of China in a reshaped global order.
