What followed was a large scale war on terror targeted at extremist groups located in the Muslim countries of the world.
Mira Patel in her story this week spoke to a few foreign policy experts and pored over several reports to analyse what have been the achievements of the American war on terror in the last 20 years and what was its cost in terms of money, human life and opportunities.
